PhD fellowship in Materials Science at University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia (including tuition fees of ~ A$45000 per year for 4 years, stipend of $41209 per year for 4 years, and research fund of up to $10,000 per year for 4 years).
RESEARCHTOPIC: Hydrogen Storage Materials
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Hydrogen is the fuel of the future, but abottleneck to the realization of hydrogen economy is the storing and transportinghydrogen in a safe and effective manner. This project builds on our successfultechnique on preparing high performance carbonaceous nanomaterials for on-boardhydrogen storage. Here the PhD candidate will tailor-make these materials to beemployed in actual hydrogen pressurised canisters; and couple it with hydrogenfuel cell in on-board environment. The researcher will optimise the processing parameters and/or doping to further improve the performance of these materials, such as hydrogen storage capacity, hydrogenation kinetics and durability.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will be expected to have a high-class Bachelor and/or Master degree in a materials science and engineering or relevant discipline. In particular, he/she should have some experience on the hydrothermal processing of materials, physical and chemicalcharacterization techniques of materials. A knowledge of heat transfer and masstransfer is a plus. Working under the supervision of the primary supervisor Chan, the candidate will identify the detail requirements of hydrogen storagematerials to be used for on-board system. Accordingly he/she will design andoptimise facile methods for materials preparation, characterise them using thehigh-precision PCT gas reaction apparatus. Under the supervision of the Joint Supervisor, the candidate will learn the effective doping of the hydrogenstorage materials to increase their storage capacity and durability. Working closely with the secondary supervisor Shabani, he/she will test the hydrogen storage materials in actual pressurized canisters designed for fuel cell applications.
SCHOLARSHIPS Tuition fees of ~ A$45000 per year for 4 years, stipend of $41209 per year for 4 years, and research fund of up to $10,000 per year for 4 years.
